Irish Rovers to Lead St. Patrick’s Parade

Share

Hailed as the international ambassadors of Irish entertainment, the six-member Irish Rovers band will lead the 10th Annual Ventura County St. Patrick’s Day Parade as grand marshals on March 14.

The balladeers are known for hand-clapping classics such as “The Unicorn” and “The Orange and the Green.” Along with floats, marching bands, drum and bugle corps, equestrians and dancers, they will celebrate an “Irish Rebels, Rogues & Rovers” theme.

Starting at 10 a.m. at San Buenaventura Mission, the parade will travel up Main Street and terminate at Ash Street. It is the kickoff event for the Irish Festival, which runs through March 16 at downtown’s Mission Park.

For a $1 admission charge (children are free), participants can enjoy Celtic music, dancing, encampments, sword fights, fortune-telling and sing-alongs. Food booths will offer Irish specialties.

Parade entry forms are available for organizations wanting to march in honor of St. Paddy, and there is still time for vendors to rent booth space at the festival. Call 649-1412 for information.
