Wildfire Training Burns Scheduled
Officials with the Ventura County Fire Department, National Park Service and California Department of Forestry will begin conducting wildfire training this morning in the Shepherd’s Flat area of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
Controlled burns will begin at 8 a.m. and are set for an area near Cheeseboro Canyon Road and the Los Angeles County border.
Officials say training with small vegetation fires will continue in the area through Sept. 17.
Some smoke will loom in nearby canyons, including Bell Canyon, Agoura Hills, Hidden Hills, Las Virgenes and Liberty, but officials say they are working with the air pollution control district to keep smoke from affecting populated areas.
The smoke, they said, is not expected to be substantial.
