Seasonably Warm Weather Foreseen

Sunny skies and seasonably warm temperatures are expected this week in the Valley, forecasters said.

An area of high pressure centered in Arizona and New Mexico is expected to move over Southern California today, bringing temperatures in the low to mid-90s through Friday, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecast information to The Times.

“Each day should get progressively hotter by a degree or two, but the Valley is not expected to see 100 degrees this week,” Sherwin said. “This is the typical summer weather pattern.”

The warmest area in the Valley today will be Woodland Hills, which is expected to see an afternoon high of 91. Slightly cooler temperatures are forecast in Chatsworth, Van Nuys and Burbank.

The ultraviolet index today at noon will be 10, Sherwin said. People with fair skin will begin to burn after five minutes of exposure.

Today’s morning lows in the Valley are expected to range from the upper 50s to the low 60s, with areas of low clouds caused by an onshore flow moving inland from the beaches, Sherwin said.
