The Zodiac’s run in the U.S. Open Cup came to an end Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to the Dallas Burn of the MLS in a third-round game at Old Panther Field in Dallas.

After playing the Burn even for most of the first half--despite being outshot, 11-4--the Zodiac fell behind on an own goal by defender Peter Lak in the 43rd minute.

The Burn pulled away in the second half, led by midfielder Temoc Suarez, who scored in the 50th minute and assisted on Jason Kreis’ goal seven minutes later. Juan Sastoque finished the scoring with a goal immediately after entering the game in the 75th minute.

Mark Dodd, the Dallas goalkeeper, made nine saves to stymie the Zodiac, the A-League’s Pacific Division leader. P.J. Polowski hit the right post in the 83rd minute.

The Burn will be joined by six other MLS teams in the quarterfinals. Nashville of the A-League upset the Kansas City Wizards, 3-1, in the other third-round game.
