Arrest Warrant Issued for Singer Weiland

A Los Angeles judge issued a $250,000 arrest warrant Thursday for Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland, after the troubled rocker failed to show up for a scheduled hearing in a drug case.

Weiland, who was charged in Los Angeles in February with heroin possession and arrested in Manhattan in early June on similar charges, had recently been undergoing detoxification at a Ventura rehabilitation center.

But his lawyer, Mike Nasatir, told Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler on Thursday that he does not know where his client is.

Weiland faced previous drug charges in Pasadena; in 1996 he agreed to complete a six-month, court-approved rehabilitation program after being arrested in 1995 for having cocaine in his car and heroin in his wallet.

Because of that prior offense, Weiland was not allowed in his current case to enter the same court-run diversion program, which eventually enables first-time offenders to get their cases wiped off the books.
