A woman died and her husband was critically injured when their car was hit by a pickup truck in Huntington Beach on Tuesday night, police said.

Karen Anderson, 35, of Huntington Beach, died of internal and head injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange at 11:05 p.m., authorities said. Her husband, John Anderson, 33, was listed in serious condition at the hospital, with multiple rib fractures, a punctured lung and a fractured vertebra, hospital spokeswoman Kim Pine said.

The accident occurred at 9:45 p.m. in the 16000 block of Bolsa Chica Road, south of Edinger Avenue, Huntington Beach Police Lt. Luis Ochoa said. Karen and John Anderson were passengers in a Chevrolet Lumina that was coming out of a shopping center driveway and attempting to make a left turn onto Bolsa Chica Road when it was struck by a pickup, he said.

Two other passengers in the Chevrolet, both visiting from England, complained of neck pain and were taken to Columbia Huntington Beach Hospital and Medical Center, authorities said. The driver of the Chevrolet, Keith Norton, 37, also of England, was not hospitalized.

Four juveniles in the pickup were treated at the scene by paramedics and released, Ochoa said. The pickup driver, a 16-year-old from Westminster, was not cited.

Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
