Vigilantes’ Woes Continue With Loss to Chico

Justin Mashore had two hits and four runs batted in to lead Chico to a 5-2 victory over the Vigilantes in a Western Baseball League game Saturday night at Nettleton Stadium in Chico.

Mashore doubled in the third and the fifth innings, driving in two runs each time.

Vigilante pitcher Mike Smith gave up nine hits, walked two and struck out four in eight innings. He is 6-3.

Kendrick Davis and Robert Muro each had two hits for the Vigilantes.

The Vigilantes trailed 5-0 after five innings. They scored a run in the top of the sixth when Kendrick Davis doubled, Robert Muro singled and Phil Kernan grounded into a fielder’s choice.

In the seventh, the Vigilantes scored their only other run. Tim McDonnell singled, Manny Gagliano reached on an error, and McDonnell advanced to third. Moore grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing McDonnell to score.

It was the ninth consecutive victory for Chico (9-1). Mission Viejo is 3-7 in the second half and 3-10 against Chico this season.
