Insurer in Talks With Purina

Ralston Purina Co. plans to offer insurance from Veterinary Pet Insurance Inc. through its consumer and veterinary activities.

Ralston Purina said the companies will explore whether pet food can be covered by insurance, and may reward pet owners with lower insurance premiums or discounted pet food if they feed their dog or cat Purina. Ralston Purina said it will also work with the Anaheim company to educate pet owners on nutrition, preventive veterinary care, and the availability of insurance.
