Police are seeking a Garden Grove man suspected of fatally shooting his girlfriend in the courtyard of their townhouse complex.

Marisela Bautista Sandoval, 22, was shot several times in the torso in the 13100 block of Ferndale Drive at 9:44 p.m. Monday, Police Det. William Morrissey said. Paramedics performed first aid on Sandoval, but she died at the scene. Police are seeking Miguel Angel Rangel, 23.

According to Morrissey, Sandoval had three children with Rangel and had recently moved back to his townhouse. On Monday night, several neighbors reported hearing an argument between Sandoval and Rangel and then hearing gunshots, police said.

Witnesses saw Sandoval rip through a bedroom window screen and climb out the window, carrying a handgun as she ran, police said. Rangel chased her, and as the two fought he seized the gun from Sandoval and shot her several times, police said.

Their three children, ages 6, 4 and 4 months, were taken into protective custody.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Rangel, who is believed to be armed and dangerous. He may be driving a gold or gray Nissan Pathfinder made in the 1970s, police said. Anyone with information are asked to call (714) 741-5929 or (714) 741-5704.
