Symphony Weighs Move to New Headquarters

A symphony orchestra that has been performing in Westchester and Marina del Rey for decades will offer a series of free concerts in Culver City, and possibly move its base of operations there, officials said.

The City Council voted Monday to approve an agreement with the Marina del Rey / Westchester Symphony for the group to become the resident orchestra for Culver City, said Don Rogers, acting director of human services.

Under the agreement, the musicians will offer three free concerts and a fund-raising gala at Veterans Memorial Auditorium. The first concert will be Nov. 1.

The newly renamed Culver City / Marina del Rey / Westchester Symphony will also conduct an outreach program within the Culver City school district to expose students to classical music.

Rogers said that sometime next year it is likely that the symphony’s board of directors will vote on whether to operate primarily out of Culver City.
