Long-Term Educator to Lead School District

The Centinela Valley Union High School District has selected San Ysidro School District Supt. Julian Lopez as superintendent.

Lopez has served as chief of the San Ysidro district for more than three years. He has nearly 40 years of experience in education.

Lopez has served as an assistant superintendent in the Montebello Unified School District, Sweetwater Union High School District and Colton Joint Unified School District and as superintendent of the Cucamonga school district. From 1994-95 he worked as a consultant in the Centinela district.

Lopez will start his new job in the Centinela Valley district, which includes schools in Hawthorne and Lawndale, on July 1. He will receive $116,000 annually.

Lopez replaces interim Supt. Lee Eastwood, who has been working with the district since January. Former Supt. John Rindone was fired in January.
