The Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station will host the 10th annual Community Golf Classic on Monday to benefit the station’s employee fund and the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center.

This year, 144 golfers have signed up for the tournament, which last year raised more than $15,000.

Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Brownell said he hopes the total this year will be double that amount.

“This event gets bigger every year,” he said. “We almost had to cut down on the number of players to make sure that every golfer would have a chance to play the course.”

Money raised at the tournament will go toward the construction of the Community Center, which will include an 11,000-square-foot gym, an industrial kitchen and 5,000 square feet of meeting space.

Construction at the Malibu Hills Road site could begin as soon as July, said Greg Johnson, Calabasas community services director.
