2 Arrested After Shots Are Reported
Two Newbury Park men were arrested early Sunday after one of them allegedly discharged a gun negligently within the Thousand Oaks city limits.
Francisco Bonilla, 28, was being held in the East County Jail on Sunday on suspicion of possessing a loaded and concealed handgun and discharging the firearm in a negligent manner, according to Ventura County Sheriff’s Sgt. Mark O’Donnell. His bail was set at $5,000.
Selvin Ubaldo Lopez, 26, charged with resisting arrest, also was booked. His bail was set at $500, O’Donnell said.
The incident occurred about 1:45 a.m. in the 600 block of Avenida de la Plaza, when neighbors called police to report several shots being fired, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
Officials said the men were arrested near Avenida de la Plaza after a brief foot chase by Sheriff’s Department deputies and California Highway Patrol officers.
One live round of ammunition and several spent shell casings were found at the scene of the shooting, authorities said.
