Byrne Helps Huntington Beach Take Scholastic Surfing Title

Micah Byrne, a sophomore at Huntington Beach High, won his his fourth consecutive National Scholastic Surfing Assn. Interscholastic title Monday during the championships held south of Huntington Beach Pier.

Byrne, who has won five NSSA national titles in various age-group competitions, helped Huntington Beach win its 17th high school title since 1978. San Clemente finished second and Edison was sixth.

Michael Losness of San Clemente finished second to Byrne in the high school boys’ division, and Huntington Beach’s Ryan Turner was third. Torri Alexander (San Clemente) finished third in the girls’ division, and Huntington Beach’s Lindsey Huseman was sixth. Carlsbad’s Julie Christian finished first.

In the high school longboard division, San Clemente’s Brendan White was second and Huntington Beach’s Jack Olson sixth. Carlsbad’s Linden Broccoli finished first.

UC Santa Barbara won its seventh national title since 1985.
