Some Up in Arms About Nestle’s Nuclear Bar

Share

A candy bar tie-in for the upcoming Disney film “Armageddon” is drawing fire from Southern California anti-nuclear activists. Nestle has just released a Nuclear Chocolate bar--a modified, specially packaged version of its Crunch bar tied to the disaster movie,” due out Wednesday. “I’m outraged to think this kind of thing would be put on a candy bar. It desensitizes people to the real nuclear danger,” said Jerry Rubin, a Santa Monica activist who works with Orange County-based Alliance for Survival. Rubin, along with a handful of others affiliated with the group, plans to picket Nestle’s Glendale offices today. Brett Dicker, head of promotions for Disney, declined comment. A spokesperson for Nestle said the company had received three complaints nationwide and forwarded a statement that Nestle “is in no way attempting to offend or desensitize the [nuclear] issue.”
