4.1 Quake Felt Near Mammoth Lakes
An area 11 miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes was shaken by a 4.1 magnitude earthquake early Wednesday, the second temblor of such size in three days and the latest moderate quake in a series that peaked with a 5.1 on June 8.
The U.S. Geological Survey said Wednesday’s quake occurred at 5:41 a.m. and was situated in the same spot just outside the volcanic Long Valley caldera where a 4.0 temblor took place Sunday.
Scientists have said the quakes are related to normal earthquake processes and are not volcanic in origin.
The latest quakes have been in a rural area and have not caused any damage.
