It’s official: Councilman Richard Alarcon has defeated former Assemblyman Richard Katz by 29 votes to win the Democratic nomination for a Valley state Senate seat, according to a final tally released Wednesday. Alarcon got 38,578 votes to 38,549 for Katz in one of the state’s closest legislative races in years. Katz may seek a recount.
