Gala Fund-Raiser Set for Cancer Institute
Natalie Cole and Tipper Gore will be honored at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza during “An American Songbook” patriotic concert July 5 that will benefit the John Wayne Cancer Institute.
The event will include tributes to Cole, who will attend the event, and Gore, who will accept her award via videotape.
A highlight of the fund-raiser, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will be a performance of American pops conducted by Sheldon Cohen, former assistant conductor for “The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.” The 80-voice New Horizon Singers and the New West Symphony will also perform.
The John Wayne Cancer Institute is in Santa Monica.
Tickets to the concert and reception range from $25 to $75 and may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling the Civic Arts Plaza box office at 449-2787. It is located at 2100 E. Thousand Oaks Blvd.
