City Council Meeting

Re “150 Turn Out for Special City Council Meeting in Valley,” Feb. 19, and “Council Field Trips Foster Unity,” Feb. 22.

The Los Angeles City Council meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. started at 8:10 p.m. The only one seated ready for action on time, was Councilman Mike Hernandez. Maybe the delayed start is not unusual for the council when it meets three times a week downtown, but it hurts when you come an hour early to get a parking place and can’t find one.

Parking, although a huge problem for the constituents who attended from the Valley, was not a problem for the council. The parking lot next door to the meeting place was amply supplied with city employees: parking attendants, security guards and emergency personnel.

Councilwoman Ruth Galanter was 1 1/2 hours late. She seemed surprised that it took so much time (1 1/2 hours) on the freeway to get to Encino from her Santa Monica office. This is not an excessive amount of time to spend on the 405 Freeway.

Your term, “they trekked out to Encino” tells me it’s time the Valley itself trekked out of the city of Los Angeles.
