Woman Shot While Driving on Freeway

A woman was shot Sunday by a person in another vehicle as she was driving north on the Orange Freeway just north of Orangethorpe Avenue, authorities said.

The woman was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was in a serious condition Sunday night, California Highway Patrol Officer Karen Bowen said.

A witness told investigators that the woman’s gray Buick and another vehicle, described as a white Honda CRX, were driving west on the Riverside Freeway Bowen said.

Moments later, the victim stopped her vehicle just north of Orangethorpe Avenue on the Orange Freeway and called 911 to report that she was bleeding from a head wound, Bowen said.

“She told us there was some kind of an altercation with occupants of the other vehicle,” Bowen said.

The shooting occurred about 5:45 p.m.
