Quest Earns Right to Defend Its ABL Crown
Katie Smith scored 18 points to lead Columbus to a 74-62 victory against San Jose on Sunday as the Quest advanced to the American Basketball League championship series.
After sweeping San Jose, Columbus will face the StingRays in the best-of-five series beginning next Sunday.
Long Beach eliminated Portland, 70-69.
Tonya Edwards scored 16, Shannon Johnson 15 and Andrea Lloyd 14 for the defending champion Quest, who knocked the Lasers out of the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Sheri Sam and Clarisse Machanguana each scored 13 points for San Jose.
The Lasers led, 54-53, going into the final quarter when Jennifer Azzi fouled Tonya Edwards, who converted both free throws and began an 18-6 Quest run to put away the series.
Columbus had won the opener of the best-of-three series, 94-88.
