Residents Vow to Continue Fighting High-Rise Plan

Share

A group of homeowners near the site of a proposed high-rise office building have vowed to continue fighting the project despite a vote of approval by the city Planning Commission.

The commission last week approved the Constellation Place development as well as the developers’ plan to use a new traffic mitigation measure on 73 intersections surrounding the project.

Homeowner groups and City Councilman Mike Feuer, whose district includes the site at Constellation Boulevard and Century Park West, asked the commission to require that developers AP Properties/JMB Realty test the Adaptive Traffic Control System before approving the project, a request the commissioners did not heed.

The commission stipulated that the project be scaled back to 704,000 square feet from 791,000 square feet, and required that developers pay $6 million toward traffic mitigation for nearby neighborhoods, said Mike Carroll, an attorney for the developers.

Richard S. Harmetz of the Tract No. 7260 Assn. said his homeowners group will continue to oppose the project.

“This thing could kill transportation on the Westside and make life miserable for many people who live on the Westside,” Harmetz said.
