Trustees Delay Hiring New Superintendent
Laguna Beach Unified School District trustees have delayed hiring a new superintendent by one month, until the end of April. The board is expected to interview candidates starting April 6, Trustee Steven Rabago said.
The new schedule comes at the request of Leadership Associates, an executive search firm hired by the district. Company officials recommended a later deadline to allow enough time to recruit top candidates throughout the state.
The firm has advertised in an education journal and posted the opening at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
Bob Sanchis, a partner at Leadership Associates and a Laguna Beach resident, referred all comments to school trustees.
Trustees fired former Supt. Reed Montgomery last month for failing to show up for work because of an undisclosed illness and for what they described as unsatisfactory job performance.
