A man lost his right leg as a result of an early morning shooting Friday in the 13400 block of Desmond Street, police said.

The victim, Alfonso Solis Jr., in his late 20s, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center after being shot once in the face and three times in the lower torso about 12:50 a.m., said Arthur Reyna, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

The bullet severed a major artery, which damaged the right leg enough that it had to be removed, police said, adding that Solis is currently in stable condition.

Solis said he was talking to a man when the two began to argue. The man took out a 9-millimeter pistol and began shooting.

The assailant drove away in a black or dark gray two-door Hyundai, Reyna said.
