Stumpel Out at Least a Week

Share

The Kings, winless in their last three games, received more bad news Friday when they discovered that center Jozef Stumpel suffered a bruised kidney in the team’s 2-1 loss to Carolina on Thursday.

Stumpel, the team’s leading scorer with 63 points, played nearly 20 minutes but was sent to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood after the game because he had blood in his urine.

Stumpel, who will remain hospitalized until today, was put on injured reserve and will not be eligible to play again until March 14 when the Kings host Colorado at the Great Western Forum.

For today’s game against Detroit, Yanic Perreault will move to Stumpel’s line and skate with wingers Vladimir Tsyplakov and Glen Murray. Center Ray Ferraro will return after sitting out two games because of flu.

To fill Stumpel’s roster spot, the Kings recalled center Jason Morgan from Fredericton of the American Hockey League. He will also fill in for Nathan LaFayette, who has a mild concussion and will miss today’s game.
