A 23-year-old Pacoima man was arrested early Sunday as he ran from his house, leaving behind his dead girlfriend, police said.

Rafael Serrano was taken into custody about 12:10 a.m. in the 11800 block of Dronfield Avenue.

The body of Serrano’s girlfriend, Yvonne Camarillo, 22, of Van Nuys was found inside the home. She had been shot several times, said Det. Frank Bishop of the Los Angeles Police Department Foothill Division.

“It appeared to be a boyfriend-girlfriend dispute,” Bishop said.

Serrano was booked into Van Nuys Jail on suspicion of murder, police said.

Several relatives, including some children, lived in the home with Serrano, but police said they did not witness the shooting. The relatives told police they knew Serrano and Camarillo were having problems, but they were in other parts of the house when they heard gunshots.

Bishop said police had been called to the scene about midnight to investigate a shooting. Upon arrival, they apprehended the fleeing Serrano and recovered the possible weapon.
