Hockey nomad Roger Neilson has made the Philadelphia Flyers his seventh coaching job in the NHL.

On Monday, Neilson, 63, moved from a job as an assistant with the St. Louis Blues and replaced Wayne Cashman, who was demoted to assistant after 61 games on the job and after compiling a 4-8 record in the Flyers’ last 12 games.

No one has had more head coaching jobs in the NHL. No Flyer coach has been ousted as quickly as Cashman.

“We hope for the best, you know,” said the Flyers’ top player, Eric Lindros, who is out for two weeks after suffering a concussion on Saturday. “We weren’t playing too tough, but at the same time our record wasn’t too bad.”

Philadelphia is 30-22-9, and the Flyers’ 73 points is third in the Eastern Conference.
