City Installs 1st Marker at Gateway

To make sure motorists know when they have arrived in Pico Rivera, officials Wednesday placed the first of eight entrance monuments at key gateways to the city, incorporated in 1958.

Mayor Beatrice Proo said the city has wanted for years to mark its boundaries in some way, but budget constraints hampered the effort.

The first monument was installed at East Washington and Passons boulevards. Other monuments will be placed at seven other major street locations. The remaining entrance signs will be installed within the next two months, city officials said.

The monument’s design of a mission bell and a starburst was approved last year in a survey of residents.
