City May Photograph Eroded Hills for Study
Three weeks after one of the worst storms in city history, the City Council on Tuesday will consider spending $14,000 to document hillside erosion with aerial photographs.
The photos would be available for study by geologists before flowers and shrubs cover the erosion, City Manager Kenneth C. Frank said. Some of the slides occurred on hills that had been eroded in recent storms, he said. Other areas hadn’t been damaged in at least 20 years.
The hillsides were saturated in heavy rains Feb. 23 that killed two people, injured dozens and destroyed or battered 300 homes.
The council also will discuss finding a new location for the Blue Bell Foundation for Cats, also destroyed in the storm.
John Hamil, a member of the foundation’s board of directors, said the 80 cats cared for at the Laguna Canyon Road facility are temporarily housed at other animal shelters and hospitals in the area.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 505 Forest Ave.
