$90,000 Promised for Youth Center
Supporters pledged more than $90,000 toward the Los Alamitos Youth Center in a recent sponsorship drive that far eclipsed previous fund-raisers, organizers said Thursday.
Last year, volunteers raised $62,000. More-experienced campaigners and greater visibility accounted for the increase this year, said Tom Stretz, youth center director.
“It all happens because of volunteers,” he said.
Volunteer Dave Barnes led the fund-raiser with $6,350 in pledges.
The drive contributes significantly to the center’s $349,000 annual budget. Bingo, program fees and other donations make up the remainder of the nonprofit center’s budget.
Youth Center activities include recreational, musical and educational classes taught in Los Alamitos, Rossmoor and Seal Beach. More than 4,000 children are served annually from the Los Alamitos Unified School District.
