Alicia Parkway to Be Closed Indefinitely
A 300-foot section of Alicia Parkway that collapsed during recent rainstorms will be closed indefinitely, city officials said.
As the City Council tonight looks at spending $133,000 for measures to keep the slope from slipping further, Public Works Director Ken Montgomery said the eastbound lane could be closed for years.
The damaged road is near the bottom of a hill near where Alicia Parkway dead-ends into Crown Valley Parkway. The slope is on property owned by Town Center Associates, Montgomery said, and agreeing on a division of responsibility and cost will take time.
“We need to work out a financial arrangement,” Montgomery said.
The cost of repairing the buckled asphalt and stabilizing the slope will run about $213,000. The costs of permanently fixing the hillside probably will be much higher, Montgomery said. Laguna Niguel will apply to receive federal financial assistance, he said.
