Skateboard Park Architect Selected; Hearings to Be Set

Hermosa Beach officials have selected an architect to build a long-awaited skateboard park and now plan to hold a series of workshops in which the community will be able to help in its design.
Glendale-based Lawrence Moss & Associates has been selected to build the 8,000-square-foot park at the site of the tennis courts now standing behind the Hermosa Beach Community Center. The city plans to spend an estimated $80,000 on the park and plans to build new tennis courts nearby.
Plans to build a skateboard park have been underway for nearly two years. Skateboarders complained that they were banned from skating in most places and started a petition to get a park built in Hermosa Beach. The skateboarders have played an active role in making the park happen and city officials said they will play a role in designing the park.
“We want the best skateboard park in the county,” said Councilwoman Julie Oakes. “Something that’s completely state of the art.”
