The Los Angeles city attorney’s office filed criminal charges Wednesday against a Northern California company and one of its drivers for violating hazardous materials transportation laws during a stop in Wilmington that exposed two police officers to toxic fumes and left one of them suffering from headaches.
The suit charges Allwaste Transportation & Remediation Inc. of San Martin with transporting leaking packages, failing to secure containers filled with hazardous materials, improper placarding and shipping paper violations. The driver, Robert Casares, of Temple City, is charged with transporting leaking packages, failure to secure the containers and shipping paper violations. They are scheduled to be arraigned April 8.
Allwaste officials said they were unaware of the suit.
