Matadors Again Defeat UCLA

Nakia Hill hit two home runs and Cal State Northridge defeated UCLA for the second consecutive day, 10-3, on Saturday at Northridge to increase its winning streak in baseball to six games.

Carey Novits (3-2) allowed three runs in seven innings for the Matadors (18-17).

Hill’s second home run, his 11th of the season, broke a 3-3 tie during a three-run seventh inning.

Northridge scored four times in the eighth, three on a home run by Chris MacMillan, who had four runs batted in.

Northridge registered a 4-3 victory over the Bruins (11-18) on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

San Diego 4-3, Pepperdine 0-5--Brad Tucker (4-0) allowed two earned runs on eight hits and struck out seven in the second game to help the Waves split a West Coast Conference doubleheader at Pepperdine.

Chris Cosbey hit a home run and a double for Pepperdine (16-13-1, 7-2) in the second game.

In the first game, San Diego’s Mark Vallecorsa (3-3) pitched a three-hitter and faced 28 batters--one over the minimum.

San Diego (15-17, 5-4) scored all four runs in the ninth on three walks, two singles, an error and two wild pitches.

The Master’s 9, Dordt 6--Josh Freeman hit a two-run home run and Josh Felice drove in two runs with two doubles to help the Mustangs (18-5) win at The Master’s.

Canyons 18, Ventura 14--David Soto and Jesse Daggett each hit two home runs and drove in six runs, and the Cougars (13-8, 5-7) won a Western State Conference game at Canyons.

Soto had four hits, Daggett three, and Craig Hennes added three hits and scored four runs for the Cougars.

Manny Mosqueda had five hits, including three doubles and a home run, for the Pirates (6-12, 3-8).

Glendale 8, Santa Barbara 7--Freddy Sanchez hit a two-run home run with one out in the 11th inning to give the Vaqueros a Western State Conference victory at Glendale.

Sanchez finished with three hits and two RBIs. Mike Bench and Louis Alcarez had two RBIs each for Glendale.

Cuesta 7, Valley 5--Ray Montenegro had two hits and drove in two runs for the Monarchs (6-13-1, 4-6-1) in a WSC loss to Cuesta (19-1, 12-1) at Valley.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pepperdine 7, Utah 0--Brad Sceney defeated Paul McPherson at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2, and Robert Lindstedt defeated Phil Rodrigue at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, for the Waves (17-4) at Pepperdine.

SOFTBALL

Chapman 10, Cal Lutheran 2--Julie Gerughty tripled and scored, and Mandi Comer added a run-scoring single for the Regals (8-12) in a Sun West tournament defeat at Chapman College.

Cal Lutheran 11, Central 3--Melissa Eichenberger (5-1) scattered eight hits for the Regals in a Sun West tournament game.
