Moger Out at Least a Week

Because of injuries, the Kings are skating with a much smaller lineup than they had at the start of the season, and they lost another of their physical players Friday as right wing Sandy Moger is out for at least a week because of a sprained knee.

Moger suffered the injury early in the third period of the Kings’ 5-2 loss to San Jose Thursday and is listed as week to week. With Matt Johnson, Ray Ferraro, Luc Robitaille and Nathan LaFayette already on the injury list, Moger’s injury comes at a difficult time.

“All of a sudden, we’ve gone from a fairly big team to a small team again,” Coach Larry Robinson said of the Kings, who have given up 14 goals over their last four games.

The Kings recalled forward Roman Vopat on Friday from Fredericton of the American Hockey League. Vopat has 19 points in 27 games with Fredericton.

Defenseman Doug Zmolek, who has not played in nine games because of a shoulder injury, was activated and could play today at Calgary. Ferraro, who has missed two games because of swelling in his left knee, made the trip, as did Johnson, who missed the last two games because of injured biceps.

Center LaFayette, sidelined since March 5, is listed as week to week with post-concussion syndrome. Goaltender Frederic Chabot, who suffered a knee sprain on March 10, has been sent on loan to Houston of the IHL.
