Transfer Policy to Be Discussed May 12

Share

The Fullerton School District soon may change its transfer policy in an effort to ease classroom overcrowding.

This year, 533 students who live outside the district’s boundaries are enrolled in Fullerton schools. Under the current policy, those students could be ousted from their schools only during the first four weeks of instruction if the schools become overcrowded. As a result, students who move into the district after the first four weeks can’t attend their filled neighborhood schools and must be bused to other district campuses.

There are 16 students who have to attend schools outside their neighborhoods. The district picks up the tab for busing those students..

Policy changes under consideration would allow the district to transfer students from other cities any time during the year to make room for neighborhood pupils.

The proposed change will be discussed at a school board meeting May 12.
