TIME II QUIT: Speaking of young concert-goers, Boyz II Men has a message for its littlest fans: Don’t smoke.

The multimillion-selling vocal quartet has taped a 60-second, anti-smoking public service announcement that will be shown at the start of each concert on the group’s current world tour, which reaches the Great Western Forum on May 17 and Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre on May 19.

The video opens with the foursome coughing in a smoke-filled room, unable to sing because of the haze. Once the smoke is cleared, they sing in perfect harmony.

It’s not far from the truth. Three years ago, the group had to cancel a tour of Japan because singer Wanya Morris’ throat was inflamed because of secondhand smoke.

“That was the last straw for me,” says Morris. “It clogged up my throat and I couldn’t sing.”

Morris says Boyz II Men, which made the video in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is not worried about alienating its fans who smoke.

“Not at all,” he says. “It’s not like we hate smokers or anything like that. To each his own. We just want the youth to know, it’s not cool to smoke.”
