It Doesn’t Rain, but Agoura Pours It On, Beats Royal Again

Two bad innings have equaled two tough losses for the Royal High baseball team, the second coming Wednesday at Agoura in a 5-3 Marmonte League setback to the Chargers.

Royal Coach Dan Maye, whose team remains in first place, said his players had little intensity.

“Usually when we lose to a team, we’re really excited to get them back,” Maye said. “But today guys seemed like they were hoping for a rainout, and I don’t like that kind of attitude.”

Agoura (14-8-1, 5-5-1 in league play) defeated the Highlanders (15-6, 8-3) for the third time this season and the second in three days.

The Chargers beat Royal, 10-6, on Monday by scoring eight runs in the second inning.

Mike Byer (6-3) of Royal pitched a six-hitter on Wednesday but gave up five hits and five earned runs in the first inning.

Brian Ashford (7-3) of Agoura allowed five hits and three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Mike Falco, making his second appearance of the season, retired the final four batters to earn his first save. The Chargers turned four double plays.
