When individual schools put forth a viable proposal to enhance the educational experience for students, boards of education should offer a receptive ear.

The Meadows School Site Council recently proposed a reconfiguration to a K-5 school, effective with the 1998-99 school year. This change will enable the school to eliminate its one 5-6 combination class and reduce its class size in kindergarten to 20 students.

A parent survey sent to all Meadows parents revealed that 85% were in favor of the K-5 proposal. Four board members have voiced their support. Sadly, one board member--Elaine McKearn--is opposed to making Meadows a K-5 school.
