Grant Awarded for Mentoring Program
Jewish Vocational Services has received a $6,300 grant from the Jewish Federation/Valley Alliance to fund its women’s mentoring program.
The program, Making the Workplace Work for Women, is designed to help Jewish women returning to the work force following divorce, or the underemployment, unemployment or death of a spouse.
Women attend sessions on career development, counseling and mentoring to boost their self-esteem, hone interviewing skills and identify career choices, said Bea Gordon, regional director of the Valley Office of Jewish Vocational Services.
Participants also may take advantage of other vocational services, including Internet job searches and post-retirement opportunities, Gordon said.
“Even though the recession in Los Angeles has abated, there is still a tremendous need for career services,” Gordon said, “especially among women reentering the workplace, changing careers, moving from welfare to work or seeking jobs after being downsized.”
Programs offered by Jewish Vocational Services will be discussed at a community forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Beth Haverim, 5126 Clareton Drive #150, Agoura Hills.
