Kevin Roderick’s article “Dream Drive Up 395” (Oct. 4) brought back memories of my first trip up Highway 395 some 25 years ago, when a friend and I decided to tackle Mt. Whitney. Because of me (I pooped out at 12,000 feet), we didn’t reach the summit.
One sour note in the story was the use of the word “relocation” to describe the Manzanar camp where innocent citizens were forced at gunpoint to endure harsh conditions due to the nativistic racism of the time.
Congress eventually made amends and allocated reparations to the remaining survivors of that violation of our country’s Bill of Rights.
