DECISION ‘98: VOTER GUIDE

Share

Today, Orange County voters will help determine the future of the state and county when they cast ballots in races ranging from governor to county supervisors, senator to school board members.

INSIDE:

- Orange County: A Justice Department lawyer will monitor precincts for intimidation of minorities. Some hot contests include the rematch between Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) and Robert K. Dornan, and two county supervisor races that could kill plans for an El Toro airport. See Page B1.

- Orange County: As the county’s registrar of voters, Rosalyn Lever will be one of the busiest people today as she runs the vast election operation. See Page B1.

- Los Angeles: Putting on today’s election in the nation’s most populous county is so massive an undertaking that Los Angeles County’s elections chief likens it to a military operation. See Page A3.

- Statewide: Nine million voters are expected to go to the polls today, ending a political season jarred by presidential scandal and eased by a generally peaceable electorate. See Page A3.

- Nationally: With the economy strong and public interest in the election low, Californians have not produced a decisive tail wind for either side. See Page A16.
