Motorcyclists and motorists can ride to Otis Chandler’s Vintage Museum in Oxnard on Saturday as a warmup fund-raising event to Sunday’s Love Ride 15 fund-raiser for muscular dystrophy and view classic cars and motorcycles. All proceeds go to the Love Ride Foundation.

Rarely seen private residences, in various states of conservation, by celebrated Modernist architect Rudolph Schindler will be open to the public in Saturday’s 1998 R.M. Schindler Residence Tour benefiting the MAK Center for Art and Architecture. The Vienna-born Schindler journeyed to America to work with Frank Lloyd Wright in Chicago and later became one of L.A.’s greatest Modern architects. Seven buildings dating from 1926 to 1949 will demonstrate his innovative “California Style”: Sachs Apartments, Grokowsky House, Elliot House, Yates Studio, Falk Apartments, Roth House and Laurelwood Apartments.

Battle Returns toRoyce Hall

Still controversial, still beloved, the celebrated American soprano, Kathleen Battle, returns to the refurbished Royce Hall at UCLA,in recital with her newest pianist, Ted Taylor. Their program lists familiar Battle specialities by Handel, Mozart, Donizetti,Turina and others.

For her second solo appearance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic this week, the celebrated Japanese pianist Mitsuko Uchida joins conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and the orchestra in Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto. Salonen also conducts Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and Nielsen’s “Helios” Overture.

The Long Beach Symphony Orchestra gets hip with “Swing Night at the Pops,” playing the best tunes of the big-band era: “In the Mood,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.” Clarinetist Gary Bovyer, principal for the LBSO and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, will perform Artie Shaw’s Clarinet Concerto. The all-female vocal trio Stardust and the dance troupe the Rugcutters, as well as the jive band the Big Shots, also contribute to the swingin’ mood.
