An argument between two women in San Clemente turned deadly Friday, as one apparently stabbed the other to death, authorities said.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded at 3:39 p.m. to a distress call from an apartment complex in the 600 block of Camino de los Mares, said Sheriff’s Lt. Orville King.

Witnesses said they heard two women arguing loudly. Shortly afterward, one witness who heard the confrontation went out into the open courtyard of the complex and found the victim lying against a stairway.

“By the time sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded, they detected no signs of life in the woman. She died at the scene from what we believe are multiple stab wounds,” King said.

The woman’s identity had not been released late Friday pending notification of her family, he said.

Authorities released no other details except that the investigation is continuing.
