Camarillo 27, Channel Islands 14--Garrett Valencia passed for three touchdowns and ran for another to help the Scorpions (7-2, 3-0) to their seventh consecutive victory at Channel Islands.

Camarillo concentrated on its passing attack because leading rusher Gregory Rountree was injured in an automobile accident on his way to meet the team bus, Coach Carl Thompson said.

Valencia completed seven of 16 passes for 159 yards, with one interception.

Steve Dacre’s 38-yard touchdown reception from Valencia with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter gave Camarillo some breathing room, putting the Scorpions up, 21-7. Valencia’s final touchdown pass--a 10-yard strike to Michael Martinez--opened the fourth quarter.

Camarillo took a 7-0 lead on 10-yard pass from Valencia to Loren Cerny at 9:58 in the second quarter. Russell Patton raced 72 yards for the Raiders (1-7-1, 1-2) to tie the score.

The Scorpions needed just 45 seconds to regain the lead on a three-yard run by Valencia, which was set up by a 56-yard pass play from Valencia to Cerny.

Patton, who rushed for 121 yard in 16 carries, also had one interception, forced a fumble, and had a 40-yard second-quarter touchdown run nullified by a holding penalty.
