Police fatally shot one man and arrested two others after responding to an armed robbery at a Gardena restaurant Friday night, a sheriff’s deputy said Saturday.

After receiving the call at 9:35 p.m., Gardena police confronted a man outside the Patio Inn restaurant at 13825 S. Normandie Ave. After reentering the bar area, the man exited again and ran down the street, according to Deputy Mark Bailey. “Officers chased the suspect into an alley where several shots were fired,” Bailey said.

The man, who has not been identified, was wounded and taken to a nearby hospital where he later died, Bailey said.

“The other two suspects remained inside the bar area and changed clothes in an attempt to disguise themselves as patrons,” Bailey said.

After ordering all diners to leave the restaurant, police identified and arrested Ronald Tinson, 20, and David Rojas, 23, on suspicion of robbery, Bailey said. They are being held at the Gardena Police Department Jail.

Two handguns were also recovered, Bailey said.
