Punk rock isn’t dead. Not at the movies anyway. Documentarian of punk rock culture Penelope Spheeris follows up her 1981 and 1988 docs with “The Decline of Western Civilization Part III” a hard look at the lives of so-called “gutter punks,” homeless teens who live on the streets of Hollywood, set to the music of Final Conflict, Naked Aggression and Litmus Green. On the lighter side, Bruce McDonald’s black comedy “Hard Core Logo” is about a fictional Vancouver punk band who reunite to play one last gig, an anti-handgun benefit.

12:30 pm: Radio Convention

The Society to Preserve and Encourage Radio Drama, Variety and Comedy holds its annual convention Friday through Sunday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. In addition to panel discussions and memorabilia trading, the convention includes several re-creations of vintage radio shows, such as “Amos ‘n’ Andy,” “The Romance of Helen Trent” and “Superman.”

From Greene and Greene and Stickley to post-Victorian kitchens and faux finishes, everything you need to know about the American Arts and Crafts Movement past and present will be covered in “Rediscovering the Art That Is Life,” a weekend celebration in Pasadena, which has a long history of Craftsman designs. This weekend’s events, sponsored by Pasadena Heritage, will include a tour of eight Craftsman-era homes including one “Hard Hat House,” a furnishings exhibition and sale, restoration workshops on tiling, plastering and stenciling, a variety of lectures, and an exhibition of plein-air paintings, prints and photo paintings. * “Rediscovering the Art That Is Life,” Pasadena. An opening-night reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Women’s City Club, 160 N. Two thousand years of Asian art will be represented at the seventh annual “Arts of Pacific Asia” at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Nearly 80 galleries will display a variety of Asian artworks including Japanese folk art known as mingei, Chinese snuff bottles that feature intricate images painted with a brush-tipped bamboo stick, paintings from the Philippines, Tibetan cabinets, Korean ceramics, and the requisite kimonos, folding screens, masks and woodblock prints.
