Enjoy Autumn From a Wrap-Around Tree Seat

Share
SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

A tree seat is a good place to sit and watch the leaves turn when autumn rolls around. And it’s a great place to hide out and escape yardwork and other chores. It also makes good use of those big, beautiful shade trees and is a handsome addition to the yard.

This tree seat project is designed to last for many years on a sturdy base of 2-by-4s. It uses standard-size pine or redwood lumber and requires a total of 75 feet of 2-by-4s, 48 feet of 1-by-4s and 30 feet of 1-by-2s, along with screws and nails. All the wood cuts are pretty basic, but to remove all the guesswork, most of the pieces and all of the angled cuts are traced from full-size patterns.

The project is quite straightforward. Cut out the pieces, then assemble the seat one half at a time using wood screws and nails. The two halves are identical, so after applying paint or stain, position the two halves around a tree and screw or clamp them together.

The tree seat shown here fits a tree with a diameter of 14 inches, but it’s easy to make adjustments for larger trees.

The Tree Seat plan, No. 352, is $8.95 and includes complete step-by-step directions with photos, full-size traceable patterns and a shopping list and cutting schedule.

A package of four outdoor furniture plans, No. C94, is $22.95 and includes this project plus an outdoor rocker, a lawn glider swing and a glider settee. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $3.95. Prices include postage and handling. Please allow three to four weeks for delivery (for rush delivery, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum and allow about seven to 10 days).
