Rasheed Brokenborough had 16 points and No. 7 Temple overcame a 16-point deficit to beat Wake Forest, 59-48, in the championship game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Neither team had a field goal over the final six minutes, but the Owls (2-0) came up with the better defensive effort, holding the Demon Deacons (1-1) to four points over an eight-minute span.

“In my estimation, it’s an unbelievable class,” Sun Devil Coach Rob Evans said.

Point guard Jason Gardner of Indianapolis signed with Arizona. The Indianapolis Star picked him as its 1997 Indiana state player of the year, and he won the same honor for 1998 from USA Today.
