Health Fair Scheduled for ‘Forgotten’ Asians
To reach out to Asians in need of medical care--a community that experts say is “forgotten” in the Valley--a health fair and culture festival will be held Saturday at the San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Service Center.
Some Asians have a tremendous need for affordable health care in the Valley, said Ron Johnson executive director of the Asian and Pacific Islander Council of the San Fernando Valley in Northridge. “These people get forgotten,” he said.
Hosted by the council, the event will feature health screenings for breast cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 30 community organizations and more than 18 doctors will answer questions and provide information about health issues.
The fair will also feature Asian foods and a Cambodian dance group. The San Fernando Valley Japanese American Community Service Center is at 12953 Branford St. For more information, call the council at (818) 886-9496.
